Lens Hire - Please Help

Post  scottgair on Fri May 01, 2009 6:49 pm

Hello All,

I have just been asked by one of my bosses to photograph 3 of their family hotels in Surrey, as they want some images for their website. They would like some outside shots of the hotels, some of the facilities (conference rooms, dining areas), the rooms, and some macro type of shots of things like cutlery and wine glasses etc, you know the type I mean.

I have a canon DSLR, with the following lenses:-

18-55mm 4.5
10-22mm 4.5
70-200mm 2.8 IS

I have no external flash unit, just the pop up flash on the camera.

Can anyone help me with the following questions please:-

1. Do you think I will need an external flash unit or will the pop up one suffice?
2. Is it worth trying to hire a 24-70mm 2.8 lens to cope with the low light indoors?
3. Is there anything else kit wise, that you think I need?

I am a little scared about taking this job on as I want to do myself and the hotel justice. Anyone with experience of this type of photography please feel free to contact me - any wise words you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time

S

Hi Scott, I have a Canon 50mm f1.4, lovely for low light and a 430EX flash. You are more than welcome to borrow. I assume you have a tripod which I guess is essential, if not I have some really sturdy manfrotto ones. Also a cable release for a canon, again I guess essential.

I got roped in to do a wedding once and that was enough. A friend asked if I would just take a few snaps which had both heads and feet in. I agreed to do it as they were on a tiny budget and couldn't afford a proffesional. I twigged it was expected I would provide something more than snaps when I was presented with a list of what photographs they wanted and in what order! needless to say I worried for weeks and never again will I agree to 'help out'

Regards

Sharron

Sharron you are an absolute star, I was looking at hiring a 50mm 14 lens but it was going to set me back best part of £100. I would love to borrow your lens for the weekend, and rest assured I will assume all risks and replace if damaged. Please can we exchange numbers on Tuesday and I will collect it nearer the time.

I have a tripod and cable release, but thanks for the offer.

Very nervous about this, I hope it goes well.

See you all on Tuesday
